WordPress can sometimes give the message ‘Maximum Execution Time Exceeded in WordPress’ or ‘Maximum Execution Time Exceeded in WordPress’. Why is this?
WordPress is mainly coded in PHP programming language. To protect web servers against abuse, a time limit has been set for how long a PHP script can be executed.
Some WordPress hosting providers have set this value to a higher level, while others may set it to a lower level. When a script reaches the maximum execution time, it results in the maximum execution time exceeded error. It is then worth looking at the script and adjusting it if possible.
